Applied Practice Experience Class: MPH 230

About This Program

This applied learning experience provides experiential learning with the goal of applying skills learned in the classroom to the professional practice environment. To meet the internship requirement students must either complete 150 hours of work at an approved internship site or create a portfolio of a minimum of two products that demonstrate attainment of MPH competencies through applied practice. All internships must be public health-related; a clinical placement is not acceptable. Portfolio options may include a combination of co-curricular activities with a student group and working with an agency or organization on a mutually agreed-upon beneficial activity. During the year in which students are completing their internship, they must register for this course. The leadership seminar will meet 5-6 times and will focus on issues of public health leadership, systems thinking and inter-professionalism. It will also provide a forum for discussing issues that arise during the applied learning experience and getting feedback from peers and the instructor.
